Decide first

Do I need a website for my small business?

Not every business needs a website on day one, and it is a fair question to ask before spending time on one. This guide looks at the situations where a website genuinely helps, and the situations where a Google Business Profile and WhatsApp might cover what you need for now.

Signs a website will help you

  • Customers ask the same questions repeatedly, such as prices, hours or areas covered
  • You lose enquiries because people cannot find enough information about you online
  • You want to look established next to competitors who already have a site
  • You sell something people research and compare before deciding
  • You want a single link to put on flyers, invoices and social media

When WhatsApp and Google might be enough for now

If almost all your business comes from repeat customers who already know how to reach you, and new customers rarely ask questions you cannot answer quickly in a chat, a Google Business Profile and a WhatsApp Business account may cover what you need in the early stages. There is no rule that says a business must have a website before it is allowed to grow.

What a website adds that those two do not

A Google listing shows a summary, and a WhatsApp chat is one conversation at a time. A website is the one place you fully control, where you can show your whole range of services, your prices, examples of past work and your story, all at once, without a customer having to ask.

It also gives you somewhere to send people from your Google listing and your social media, rather than asking them to message first before they know anything about you.

A simple way to decide

If you find yourself typing the same answers into WhatsApp chats over and over, that is a sign a website would save you time by answering them upfront. If your business runs mostly on word of mouth and repeat orders with no unanswered questions, it can wait.

Starting small if you decide yes

Deciding you need a website does not mean committing to a large project. A single page with your description, services, photos and a WhatsApp-ready contact button, built through a free guided builder, is often enough to start. You can add pages later as the business grows.
